Bertrand Cardis was fascinated by sailing from a young age. A first highlight is the participation as Watch Captain in the Whitbread Round the World with skipper Pierre Fehlmann on Disque d'Or 3.
Professionally, he graduated as a mechanical engineer from the école polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne. For the 1984 Summer Olympics, he manages to qualify with Rainer Fröhlich in the Flying Durchman; the two sail to 13th place.
Back in Switzerland, he founds Décision SA, which later becomes known for its collaboration with Ernesto Bertarelli.
In addition to the Alinghi racing yachts, Décision is also involved with the development of Bertrand Piccard's Solar Impulse. In January 2009 Bertrand Cardis is awarded the Order of Merit of the Canton of Vaud for his achievements.
