Kalani Lattanzi
Kalani Lattanzi, the waterman, was born on May 17, 1994, on the island of Maui in Hawaii and grew up in Brazil on the high waves of Itacoatiara Beach in Niterói. He is active in three sports: surfing, bodyboarding, and bodysurfing big waves. In 2015, he became the first surfer to bodysurf big waves like "Jaws" in Maui. In Mexico, he rode a historically large bodyboard wave on the massive swell at Puerto Escondido.
He also took on the towering waves at Nazaré, where he entered the surf without any safety equipment and swam to the wave crests. In 2016, he won the Red Chargers category at Nazaré. He spent four hours in the water to surf three waves, including the biggest of his life.
In 2020, the documentary "KALANI - Gift from Heaven," a short film about his career in the world of big waves, was released on Apple TV, iTunes, Vimeo onDemand, Amazon.com.
In 2021, he achieved a historic feat by surfing a big-wave barrel with just a handboard called Taylor’s Mistake Handski. Kalani splits his time between Brazil, Hawaii, and Bali and also works as a yoga coach.
