Sofia Bekatorou is the most successful Greek sailor with two Olympic medals, gold in Athens 2004 and bronze in Beijing 2008, and 10 world and European championship titles in various Olympic classes. For her outstanding achievements, she was twice named World Sailor of the Year. She has been Olympic champion four times and is currently preparing for her fifth Olympic campaign in the Nacra 17 for Tokyo 2020. Bekatorou has been the sole tactician and strategist at the TP 52 regattas for the past 15 years and was recently named the Captain of the Greek team for the SSL World Cup in 2021. With the exception of sailing Bekatorou has successfully organized international sailing events, VIP sailing hospitality programs and developed sailing curricula for schools. She is a performance coach, a certified psychologist and a speaker. In addition, she was elected vice chair of the Athletes' Commission for Sailing in the World and supports women's participation in sports. In addition, Sofia is an ambassador for the WWF and Global Sustain. She is a mother of two children, Dimitris (10) and Georgia (7).
